Knowing which organisations (WHO) are carrying out which activities (WHAT) in which locations (WHERE) is essential if those organisations and activities are to be coordinated in a way that ensures that humanitarian needs are met. SAHIMS is supporting the process of establishing a "Who does What Where" national reporting to help deliver a regular and accurate mapping of humanitarian activities in the southern African region. Some data gaps should be expected in early results and from country teams. However, data quality will gradually improve with the involvement of more organisations as well as the promotion of national capacity to synthesise the information into effective report for decision makers and donors. The Who does What Where is an invaluable tool for national coordination as regular reporting allows the close follow up of requirements for support and partnerships.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
AHI Who does What Where, Southern and Central Africa, Last Quarter 2006
On 27 and 28 September 2006, representatives from SADC, United Nations Agencies, donor governments and agencies and the International Federation of the Red Cross met to discuss coordination of assistance to AHI prevention and preparedness. The Avian and Human Influenza Pandemic (AHI) Planning Meeting for International Agencies and Cooperating Partners to the SADC Region produced several Who Does What Where assistance activity maps for Southern and Central Africa. The objective of this tool is to provide an overview of the different agencies working in AHI and to compare this with the assistance needed in order to ensure a coordinated response. The maps will be continuously updated, improved and expanded.
